Today, we’re going to have a little chat about Google My Business. If you’re not sure what it is, or if you need help setting it up for your business, don’t stress. We do it all the time and we can do it again for you. What we want to discuss particularly today are zero-click searches. What are they and how can we position our businesses to attract people that are searching?

To put it simply, a zero-click search is when somebody searches for something on Google and they find what they’re looking for without actually clicking anything in the search results. Makes sense, right? This is more common than you might think and you’ve probably done it quite a bit yourself.

Let’s look at an example. We Googled “Wisdom Tooth Extraction Minneapolis” and got the following results:

As you can see, underneath the phone number for St. Paul Oral Surgery, their website mentions “Wisdom teeth extraction.” That is a major part of why their business shows up in this search. If we were truly looking to get our wisdom teeth removed, we could call St. Paul Oral Surgery without ever clicking on their website. However, had they not referenced wisdom tooth extraction on their website, they would not have shown up in these search results.

This is a perfect example of why you need a Google My Business listing and why your website needs to be optimized to show up in search results. It can generate business without you ever seeing a website click-through in your analytics. Take a look at the last business in the above screenshot. Minnesota Dental Surgery must have a review page or section on their website because a patient left a review that mentioned “wisdom teeth pulled” and that helped them appear on this list. This brings us to our next point.

What can you do to give yourself a higher chance of appearing at the top of the list? A lot of things. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is basically an art form. It takes time, strategy, and constant updates. Here are a few must-haves to make sure you show up in Google searches:

  • Google My Business listing

  • Yelp page, Yellow Pages listing, Manta listing, etc.

  • A place for people to leave reviews on your website

  • Product/Services page on your website

  • A blog with recent and relevant articles

All of the above items will help you to show up in search results when people are looking for businesses like yours. If you need assistance setting any of this up or writing relevant blog articles, give us a shout. It’s kind of what we do… put your business in the Limelight.
