Email Marketing might seem like a tool of the past but apparently it has told Father Time to back off. The eNewsletter has a proven track record, but some (stubborn) businesses are hesitant to join the email club. We get it, you’re hip and modern. Or maybe you’re old school? Either way, you should be sending out eNewsletters because we said so. Also the reasons below.

Stay In Touch

Whether they’re a long-time customer or someone who just joined the list after an encounter with your business, email is a great way to stay connected. You can add cute little personal touches like their name to the email and you can celebrate milestones with them. (Yours and theirs.) Just received an order? “Tell us what you think” email. Put something from your website into their cart, but didn’t purchase? “Don’t forget to finish your order” email. Some ESP’s (Email Service Providers) will even let you design a birthday email that automatically goes out to a customer on their birthday!

You can also reach any device and look great while you do it. Mobile open rates are higher than ever and ESP’s (look at you, knowing what we’re talkin’ bout.) have gotten great at making your emails look perfect on all devices. It’s also a better option than texting because it’s more visually appealing and small email lists are free. Texting usually requires a fee. Free vs. fee, which do you like more? We like the one with the ‘r’ in it.

More Effective Than You Might Think

If you’re a newer business, you might be thinking that email marketing is as outdated as faxing or dial-up internet. If you’ve been around for a while, you might be thinking that learning how to do it isn’t worth the trouble. You’d both be wrong. Email marketing has proven to be more effective than both newer tactics, like social media, and older tactics, like mailers. So both of you kiss and makeup already, with each other AND with email marketing.

We are all guilty of mindlessly scrolling through our social media feeds, zombies craving engaging content instead of brains. But when we open an email, that business has our undivided attention. Consumers are pickier than ever about which newsletters they subscribe to, so if they’ve opted into yours, they must really like you.

You and your new customer sittin’ in a tree. They must be B – U – Y – I – N – G what you’re selling.

Establish Credibility & Expertise

New eNewsletter templates are so easy to use, a monkey could create a beautiful email. Pretty sure that’s how MailChimp came up with their name. (Don’t hold us to that though.) All jokes aside, MailChimp, Constant Contact, and AWeber are all great options for easy-to-use, visually pleasing email templates that allow you to essentially drag and drop your way to an email fit for the pros. Use your colors and logo to stay consistent with the rest of your branding.

You should also (seem) like you know what you’re talking about in your business’ niche. Don’t be a know-it-all, but use your email to establish your credibility and show that you’re a business that means business. Share some juicy knowledge nuggets in your emails to deepen your relationship with existing customers and to convince new or potential customers that they made the right choice when they chose you. People often shop around before making purchases, so once you’ve got them in your sights, make THEM pull the trigger using your sharpshooting email. Bang.

Have we convinced you? We thought so. If you’ve got a website, don’t forget to add an opt-in section to build your email list. You can also add a link to join the list on social media posts, business cards, tags, or receipts. If you want to get fancy with it, add QR codes instead. Customers can then scan the code with their phone and be automatically directed to the opt-in section on your website. You might’ve been alone on Valentine’s Day, but at least now you’ve got a bunch of people on your email list to chat with!
