So you built this beautiful and nifty website or you paid someone else to do it for you. The problem is, not enough people are visiting it. Do they not like it? How could they not? We just said it’s beautiful.
The honest answer is that they probably don’t know about it. Even your existing customers might not know about it.
You’ve got to put it out there for everyone to see. You (or somebody) put in the hard work to make it, so go shout it out from the mountain tops. (Don’t actually do that. There are probably not that many people on mountain tops and the ones that are will just be annoyed and confused.)
You’ve got to promote the heck out of it! But how? Well, you’re in luck. Here are 5 ways to promote your website that won’t break the bank.
Revisit Your SEO Strategy
The strength of your SEO strategy determines how visible your website is online. Websites with good SEO are easily found. Some websites have such bad SEO that they aren’t on the first page of results when you type the exact business name into Google. Don’t let that be you.
You don’t have to hire an SEO Specialist to improve yours either. There are a ton of free SEO tools available online. Take some time to research some strategies that will improve your SEO and therefore your visibility online.
Imagine if Van Gogh spent all that time painting Starry Night and then hid it in a closet somewhere so nobody could see it. That’s what you’re doing with your beautiful website if you’re ignoring SEO! Go ahead, give it a Gogh! (Ugh. Sorry.)
Use ForumsÂ
Forums like Quora or Reddit are great places to promote your website for free. You’ll reach a bunch of potential new customers who have never heard of you.
The trick here is that you must contribute to the conversation. Nobody is going to click your link if you’re just jumping from conversation to conversation pasting it everywhere.
Use the search tool to find discussions that are relevant to your business and establish yourself as an expert on the subject. People will trust your business when they are confident that the people who are running it are knowledgeable.
These forums are also a great place to see real-time feedback on your products or business, be it good or bad.
Do you send marketing emails? If not, we need to have a whole separate conversation. You need to start, like, yesterday. If you do, make sure the recipients know about your new website.
Every email you send should bring value to the reader and include a Call To Action. (CTA) This CTA will usually link to a page on your website. Maybe you’re promoting a new product or service. Maybe you just wrote a super awesome new blog article, kind of like this one. Or maybe you’re offering some sort of sale, coupon, or discount.
Whatever it is, make sure to include your logo and at least one link to your website on it.
Also, don’t forget to set up an email collection system. You can use a form on your website or a landing page that can be reached via a social media post or via a QR code on your business card. Want more info about collecting email addresses for email marketing? Go here.
We like MailChimp the most, but there are a bunch of ESP (Email Service Provider. Fancy, huh?) options out there.
Build A Google My Business Profile
Your business might already be on Google My Business without you even knowing about it. That would be both good and bad. Good because it will pop up when someone searches for you. Bad because it’s probably missing a lot of crucial information that would increase clicks.
Go to Google My Business and follow the instructions to get your profile listed. Make sure you include your hours, contact information, address, and website. This will also help you appear on Google Maps when people search for nearby businesses.
Put It On Everything
OK, this one is pretty self-explanatory. But seriously. Put it on everything. Your business card. Your emails. Your products. Your postcards, posters, or flyers. Put it in your social media bios. Hammer that sucker into people’s brains so they can’t forget it even if they tried. This may be getting out of hand. But you get the point.
Voila! Five ways you can promote your website without breaking the bank. That wasn’t too painful, was it? We had fun.
