Okay, maybe that’s a little personal. What I mean is, when you go search for yourself online do you show up?

If you don’t show up online, you’ve got a, “outta sight – outta mind – outta date” problem.

There are a myriad of opportunities to promote your business online and on social media, let’s start by exploring the numbers.

97% of people click on the 1st page search result. People can be lazy.

Their clicky finger may be tired or they want to get back to Netflix or … no, they’re really just lazy.

75% of people never scroll past the 1st page.

Here’s my point, your business doesn’t exist to them if they can’t find it easily.

SCAN YOUR BUSINESS NAME NOW AND SEE WHAT PROSPECTS FIND ABOUT YOU!

If you’re the local butcher, baker or candlestick maker, a whopping 97% of consumers are at least looking online for local businesses. That’s the good news.  The bad news is that you might not be the one that they will find.

Gone are the days of just hanging up a sign and putting out a welcome mat.

If someone happened to walk by maybe they walked in. That doesn’t work in today’s fast-paced world.

You need to be thinking ahead and adopt a modern day business acumen.

READY TO SHOW UP?

Correctly setting up your online business listings and reviews are a good place to start! Do a scan to see what’s right and what’s wrong.  You’ll be surprised.

Think about what Google, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Facebook, Bing, Yahoo, and Yelp, can do for you. It doesn’t matter which map, app, search engine, GPS system, or social network consumers use to find and engage with your business. Just Ask Jeeves. What matters is that they discover accurate, complete, and compelling information at every turn.

Additionally, customers and search engines make decisions about your brand every day based on your ratings and reviews. If you don’t actively manage this important set of facts, you could be leaving your star ratings up to a few detractors.

In fact having business profiles in as many places as possible makes you rank higher on all search engines.  Always remember the more sites, the more links and the more consistent/accurate and relevant business content you put in about your company, the easier it is for complicated algorithms to “like” you.

One last little pearl of wisdom is to monitor your listings. If someone has left negative comments about your company you might never know unless you go looking for them. Search directories and social media sites, if there are bad reviews, address them. It will ultimately bring you more credibility and might convert your naysayer.

So, your objective is simple. Make some noise, get found, link to your website, ask for reviews and get your visitors to cough up their emails. Got it?

If you’re getting the idea that all this is complicated, it isn’t really. However, you do have to devote the time and energy to make it work for you.
